Gonorrhea Symptoms, Causes, Treatment & Remedies | Antibiotics | Pics:- Many patients I see are worried they might have Gonorrhea but don’t know what the symptoms are. Today, I will go through what signs to look out for and teach you what treatments are needed.

Firstly, I want to give you a quick overview and then I’ll jump into the warning signs, and finally, I’ll talk about the best treatments for Gonorrhea.

What Is Gonorrhea And How Gonorrhea Can Affect Me

Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted disease or STD that is caused by bacteria that can infect the genitals, rectum, or throat.

You can catch gonorrhea by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who is infected with gonorrhea. A lot of people believe they can catch it off objects like a toilet seat or from clothing. This is not true.

How Can You Prevent Gonorrhea And How Long Before You Get Symptoms Of Gonorrhea?

You can protect yourself by either not having sex or using a latex condom with sex.

Gonorrhea symptoms normally start 5 to 7 days after having sex with someone who has the infection.

What Are The 6 Warning Signs You Might Have Gonorrhea?

1 – A burning sensation when you pass urine.

This can happen to both men and women and may give you the feeling like you have a urine infection. If you think you are at risk of gonorrhea, get an STD test done and also make sure your doctor checks for Chlamydia too.

2 – Discharge.

In men, you might get white, yellow, or green fluid from the tip of your penis that stains your underwear. In women, you may notice an increase or change in vaginal discharge.

3 – Pain.

Women may get lower tummy pain sometimes, or pain with sex. Some men may experience painful, swollen testicles with gonorrhea infection.

4 – Bleeding.

In women, you may notice bleeding between your periods or much heavier periods than usual.

5 – Back-Door Symptoms.

If gonorrhea has infected the rectum you may notice discharge, anal itching, soreness, bleeding, or painful bowel movements.

6 – No symptoms.

Unfortunately, in half of the women and about 10 percent of men, there are no signs or symptoms.

So What Does This Mean? If you’ve had unprotected sex with a new partner, please get an STD check done just to be on the safe side.

This will normally involve a urine test and sometimes swabs that will be taken from your throat or rectum if you’ve had oral or anal sex.

How Do You Treat Gonorrhea?

Thankfully, there are treatments for gonorrhea that can cure this infection. The treatment you will be given will depend on where you live in the world, as unfortunately, it is becoming harder to treat gonorrhea due to drug-resistant strains.

The normal regime of treatment is a one-off injection of 500 milligrams of Ceftriaxone antibiotic, usually into your arm and then two tablets of 500 milligrams of Azithromycin antibiotic.

You might also be given something different if you have allergies to these antibiotics.

When Is It Safe To Have Sex After Gonorrhea Treatment?

You should wait seven days after finishing all medications before having sex.

This is because there are still fragments of the bacteria in your system which will potentially pass to others and cause another gonorrhea infection.

If both you and your partner have had treatment at the same time, please wait a week to have sex again.

How Long Does Gonorrhea Take To Clear Up?

After treatment, you should feel much better within about 48 hours or for some people, it’s even sooner.

Although, it may take up to two weeks for any pain in your pelvis or testicles to disappear completely.

Yes, definitely! This is even if your partner has been tested and the result has come back negative.

I always recommend to my patients to get treated anyway, as these tests aren’t perfect.

If you are pregnant and have gonorrhea, you can give the infection to your baby during the delivery. Which can cause serious problems for the baby.
It is extremely important to get treated, so please talk to your doctor about this, or if you are worried that you may have the infection, have a chat with your doctor.
